Handicap Cup Rules
The handicap cup will be competed for every year, from the first Thursday in January until the first Thursday in December and the winning pair will be declared based on their results obtained on the first Thursday of each month during that period.
The cup will be awarded to the Pair who achieve the highest average percentage over the year, having played for a minimum of 6 eligible Thursdays
Calculation of Handicaps
Handicaps will be calculated based on the previous years performance and will be calculated using a players best 15 results. Any player failing to play for a minimum of 15 events in the previous year, will be awarded a handicap by the club director.
The combined handicap for a pair will be calculated by adding both players handicap together and dividing by two.
For each event which is eligible for the handicap cup, a given pairs percentage will be added to the their combined handicap to obtain a handicap score.
The sum of all eligible weeks will then be added together and divided by the number of events played:
Example:
Gertrude plays with Armitrude and they obtain the following 6 results:
66.6% 43.23% 56.66% 50.00% 61.10% 52.25%
Gertrude’s previously calculated handicap is -2 and Armitrude (a beginner) has a handicap of +5. Their combined handicap is (+3/2) = 1.5. This will be added to each score above to give:
68.1% 44.73% 58.16% 51.50% 62.60% 53.75%.
Which adding all together and diving by 6 gives 56.47% and probably a winning score.
